Countdown!

Just a couple of reminders - the next Whedon class begins on Thursday, Feb. 7. The six-week course will run through Thursday, March 13 with each session meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. We'll be exploring just what makes a group of people a "family" in this class, which will utilize examples from Whedon's shows Buffy, Angel and Firefly. Familiarity with the shows is nice, but not necessary.

If you've been wanting to show your skeptic friends/family members what all the fuss is about, this might be the class you've been waiting for! Contact the Continuing Education department at Cleveland Community College to register. They can be reached at (704) 484-5324.

In other Whedon news, please indulge me for a moment - I have to crow about this. McFarland has included my upcoming text on faith and Whedon in their Spring catalog (I'm also available for pre-order on Amazon! Go on, follow the links!) The text is slated for a June release and has no bearing whatsoever on the upcoming course - I just was thrilled at seeing another concrete step happening in this l-o-n-g process!

See you in class!

Can't wait! I'll hopefully be by the college next week to sign up. I'm trying to convince my mom to take it as well... I literally just finished watching the last episode of Buffy a couple hours ago, and I think I cried through the last half.. Amazing though! I guess I'm one of the few who actually mostly liked the last two seasons. I know Spike comes back on Angel, but I loved/hated how he died.. (Hope I didn't spoil anything for anyone there.) Looking forward to the next class! -Lindsey

Glad you're coming back for the next session and please, bring your mom along! Remind her that we're very nice people, just with a few interesting quirks.

Check back in about two weeks - I plan to post a rough outline here before class meets, but first I must get my new spring classes up and running.

I'll go by the office next week and check on class numbers - I, too, would love a big class. I've been talking it up, but please do the same!

I'm still mulling a couple of episodes to figure out which will be the best fit - after I post the outline, please feel free to make suggestions. I'm planning to split this into three sections, each focusing on how Whedon portrays families (biological and not-so-much). We'll have 2 episodes each from Buffy, Angel, then Firefly. What a great excuse you have now to go back through and re-watch old episodes to give me suggestions!

Check back for the outline in about a week.

I'm still working on Angel myself.. I've seen season one, and after Buffy, I sort of skipped to season five. I've watched the first 6 episodes, and I'm just waiting for the rest to finish downloading...

You definitely have some great Firefly episodes to choose from. "Safe?" "Out of Gas?" I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Still haven't convinced my mom to take the class.. She's worried about her schedule and making it to class on time. Speaking of which, I'll try to be on time, but I'll be coming straight from UNCC. (My last class there ends at 4:45.) So I may be a couple minutes late.. I haven't had a chance to sign up yet, but I'm going to do so ASAP..

Cly - sent you an e-mail, but should reply here as well. At the end of last week, we were a go. I went by the office Thursday to double-check. I'll post information about the room as soon as I have it.

We may be few in number (I never should have moved the class from Monday nights!), but we're kicking!
